Pay Attention When Job Hunting – Recruiters and Staffing Firms

February 23rd, 2012

Through numerous business networking sites, would-be employees can locate companies for which they’d like to work. Recruiters frequently have LinkedIn profiles where you can connect with them and introduce yourself. It can be confusing when looking at job boards sometimes. It is sometimes tough to determine who is that’s posting a job. A key to figure this out is by doing research. If you are unemployed and want to get hired, start by following recruiters and staffing firms online.

Look up the firm’s name. When you research the firm, you can tell if they are a staffing agency or a recruiter. Not paying attention to who you are dealing with, could lead to a contractual arrangement with an agency without getting the job you sought. Some job boards are just an assemblage of every job listed, that you found by plugging in keywords …so heads up.

Sometimes you’ll read a job posting that has little information; it might say confidential. This usually happens because the employee that is being ousted doesn’t know it yet. When businesses need staffing, they go about it several ways. Their internal recruiting department might handle it. In those cases, the ad will tell you the company name and the recruiter’s name. Firms also hire staffing agencies.

Once a company’s in-house recruiter or staffing team recognizes potential applicants they do the screening steps. If they like your resume, they’ll possibly call to have a phone interview. They may start with an email auto-response of receiving your resume, but not always. The phone interview is step one; if that goes well, they’ll set up a face-to-face or Skype interview. Usually the HR department is where the recruiter works, or if a staffing firm has contacted you, you’ll meet with that firm’s agent.

Once you make it through that interview, you’ll be asked to interview with the manager of the department for which you are applying. You may be asked to interview with several department heads or executives, depending on the job that you’re applying for.
